Maintenance Tips

  • LAWN MAINTENANCE BEST PRACTICES
  • Mowing once per week is generally acceptable
  • Mow at a height of 3-4" tall
  • Mowing and trimming too short can lead to poor performance and more weeds
  • Sharpen mower blades at least once per year

  • Home lawns need about 1" of water weekly
  • Avoid watering during the hottest part of the day
  • Water each section of lawn for 60-90 minutes 1-2x per week
    • More days per week may be necessary during dry, hot times
  • Deep, infrequent watering will produce the best results
  • WATERING INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEWLY SEEDED LAWNS

  • A single season of foot traffic, rain and mowing will create soil compaction
  • Core Aeration will:
    • Relieve soil compaction
    • Increase oxygen, nutrient and water penetration into the soil
    • Improve turf root development
  • Over seeding will increase turf density

  • De-thatching is typically not necessary in a maintained home lawn
  • Regular mowing will not allow thatch to accumulate
  • Core aeration will penetrate existing thatch
  • Organic matter will help to eliminate small amounts of thatch
